100 Days of Flowers

Good afternoon everyone! Another Monday, another week to kick ass! As some of you may already be aware, I have decided to partake in a little drawing/painting challenge. To draw or paint 100 flowers in 100 days.

I say “little”… I wasn’t really thinking when I decided to do it, but taking on a challenge of 100 days of flowers is not so little and not so simple. I didn’t take the time to quantify quite how many drawings that is, and upon sitting down to devise my plan of action, I realised that it will be mid April by the time I finish.

So, lesson one learned, plan and understand your task before running in head first, pens blazing, swinging your paintbrush, thinking you can take on anything because you are Braveheartist!

The challenge is to make sure that everyday I draw or paint something. If I only get ten minutes in the entire day, then see what I can push myself to do in that time. If I get a couple of hours, push myself to see how much detail and complexity I can achieve. Since it’s easier to have a focus than try to come up with a new idea everyday, I decided to stick to florals as I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with them recently.

This week has yielded some varied results, I missed one day as I have been a little under the weather, but I’m pretty chuffed to have achieved what I have! I really like the style that’s starting to develop in this weeks set of flowers, but I want make sure I explore a little more and go outside of my comfort zone next week.

To do that I am going to set some mini goals for each weeks set going forward.

The mini goals for next week are:

  1. Incorporate more realistic flowers.

  2. Have one piece with no embellishments and just let the watercolour speak for itself.

I have a feeling the second one with be the one that trips me up, I really love adding the details and embellishments.

Right lovely people, I’m gonna crack on, see you next week!
